What is Luna?

Luna is a period and cycle tracker for iPhone and Android. You log flow, mood, energy, sleep and symptoms, and Luna shows where you are in your cycle and when your next period is likely to start. Once you've logged two periods, predictions use your own cycle lengths rather than a default.

Alongside the cycle science, Luna includes the maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar. Tonight's night (pō) sits next to your cycle day, adapted from Wiremu Tāwhai's Te Whānau-ā-Apanui maramataka via the All Right? wellbeing resource.

Luna is local-first. What you log stays on your phone and works offline, and you never need an account to track. If you subscribe to Luna Pro and sign in, you can back up and sync across devices, with your data encrypted in transit and at rest. Luna is educational, not medical advice, and it isn't a contraceptive or fertility tool.

Who it's for

Anyone who wants a private tracker

Log your period and symptoms without signing up. Your history stays on your phone unless you choose to back it up.

People with irregular cycles

Luna learns your own averages as you log. At setup you can tell it your cycles are irregular, just starting, postpartum or perimenopausal.

People who want to understand their cycle

Phase-aware insights and the Learn library explain what tends to shift through each phase, with sources cited where an article makes a health claim.

People who follow the maramataka

See tonight's pō beside your cycle, calculated from the true new and full moon and anchored to New Zealand days.

Questions about Luna

Is Luna a private period tracker?

Yes. Luna is local-first, so your logs live on your phone by default and nothing leaves the device unless you turn on cloud backup. In local mode it doesn't use analytics or advertising SDKs, and Luna never sells or shares your data for advertising.

Can I use Luna without an account?

Yes. You can start as a guest and use the whole free version offline without ever signing up. An account is only needed for Luna Pro or cloud backup, so your membership and data can follow you to a new phone. You can sign in with Google, or with Apple on iPhone.

Does Luna work offline?

Yes. Logging and predictions work without a connection. Reminders are scheduled on your own phone, so nothing about your cycle is sent to a server to work out when to notify you.

Is Luna's cloud sync encrypted?

Yes. Cloud backup and sync is part of Luna Pro and only runs if you sign in and use it. Synced data is encrypted in transit with TLS and at rest with AES-256. You can delete your Luna account at any time, and your cloud backups go with it.

Is there a subscription?

Luna itself is free, and the free version covers full tracking, your next-period estimate, 90 days of history and one doctor-ready report. Luna Pro is an optional monthly or annual subscription that adds your full history, the fertile window, insights, the Learn library and cloud sync. You can cancel any time in your App Store or Google Play account.

Can I use Luna as contraception?

No. Fertile window and ovulation estimates are statistical approximations from the cycles you've logged, and Luna must not be used as a contraceptive or fertility planning tool. Luna is educational and not a substitute for professional medical advice.

What is the maramataka in Luna?

Maramataka is the traditional Māori lunar calendar. It names each night of the moon and reads its energy as a guide for rest and action. Luna shows tonight's pō alongside your cycle, calculated from the true new and full moon and anchored to New Zealand days. It's adapted from Tāwhai (2013) via All Right?, and you can switch it off.
